July 2, 2008

The tube that has been sucking liquid from Chris’ stomach for two weeks is finally out. This leaves only the feeding tube and oxygen tube. This is a huge improvement over the number of tubes he has had and will certainly make it easier to go places in the chair.

Chris had a great day today. He was much more positive and receptive to seeing and talking with people. He sat up most of the day, as well. He got to leave the burn ward in his chair. He went to the catwalk between the UofU hospital and Primary Children’s Hospital and he got to go outside! This gives us great hope that we’ll be able to take him outside to see fireworks on the 4th of July.
The only bummer of the day was when Tiffannie got kicked out of the hospital for 3 hours because of a bomb threat. Since they can’t really kick out the patients, Chris had to go through most of the wound care without her present. Even this story has good news too. Chris had a much easier time with wound care, proving that it gets better everyday. Also, as of 8:30 pm, Chris has not had any pain medications since his wound care around lunchtime. This makes the longest stretch he has been able to go without pain medications. He says he just doesn't need them right now!

Chris~
I haven't seen you since you were a little guy hanging out with Nate. You probably don't remember me very well, but I remember you! :) I am Patty Pawelek's younger sister. I've been following your progress on this blog. What a wonderful idea! As with everyone else that has left comments for you, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Remember, God never gives you more than you can handle. This is such a long, hard road for you to walk, but you CAN overcome this gigantic obstacle. You have such an enormous support system. Stay strong and positive, Chris!

Tiff & Earl~
It's not just a long hard walk for Chris. Take care, the both of you. Don't neglect your physical and psychological needs and get worn down. You have to take care of yourselves so that you are better able to take care of Chris. You, too, are in my thoughts and prayers. Don't be afraid to ask for help. So many around you are so anxious and willing to help! God bless you all. Wishing a speedy recovery.

Chris, you are an incredible young man. You are doing so well, and I can't believe how long you toughed it out without any pain meds.

Going outside had to feel exhilarating! And, I'm sure your folks were thrilled as well.

I know Anna and Drew are looking forward to seeing you. You're like a big brother to them. It is so awesome that they get to spend time with you this weekend. Make sure Melissa gets some pictures of them with you.

Now that you're up and around, the nursing staff better watch out! You'll definitely keep them on their toes.

I hope you get to see a spectacular fireworks display on the 4th.

Hang tough!

Hey Chris,
Boy it sure sounds like you had an exciting day yesterday. Keep up the good work and make sure you smile everytime something positive happens. Great job on doing without the pain pills. The longer without them the better for you. I know that you may still need some but you can judge that, not someone else telling you that you have to take them.

I bet that you felt so much better being outside and just being able to smell fresh air and not hospital air. WOW! What progress. I sincerely hope that you will be able to enjoy the 4th with family and friends.

Favre update. Now we heard that this was all just the media putting things in everyone's minds. Can you believe that. If the man wants to still play football he should be able to continue to play and as long as he wants to. I will keep you updated. Maybe one of these days we can sit down and talk sports. I would really like that.

Well Dude since you are doing so well and some of our prayers are being answered. So now we just have to continue to pray and continue to THINK POSITIVE.I really like the comment about you can't bring a good person down and I really believe that.

Hang in there and good luck tomorrow. I hope your dressing changes are getting a little easier and less painful. We all love you and want to see you go home soon.
Stay Positive - Love ya!
Aunt Faye
